Phil is concerned. He's the Educational Social Worker, and through the learning platform, he has been reviewing the attendance records for a Year 3 class. One child that he has responsibility for – Sam – has had more gaps than most in his attendance. Phil wants to understand this better, and emails Sam's teacher to arrange a meeting.
Email makes getting in touch straightforward. Setting up a time to meet is no problem either, because both Phil and Sam's teacher share calendars through the learning platform.
At the meeting Phil discovers his concerns are shared by the teacher, who is grateful for the meeting and the opportunity to discuss Sam's record in more detail. Using the learning platform, both review Sam's performance and examples of his work, and they notice a marked deterioration in his performance after Christmas. Phil agrees to speak with Sam's parents and promises to email his teacher again after that meeting.
