Susan, a Geography teacher, has hit on a good way to engage her class in a lesson on plate tectonics and its effects on the Earth's crust: she wants to show them a spectacular video clip she's seen. The trouble is, her school doesn't have the clip, and still images don't quite have the same impact.
Susan has heard that a teacher at a school nearby might have used the video recently, and she has already been given a password so that she can access their online materials. She logs onto the learning platform, finds the other school's VLE and searches for the video in its shared resource library. And there it is! In a matter of minutes, she incorporates it into her lesson plan.
The following week, the video is a hit with Susan's pupils and gives them a richer understanding of the concepts involved. She emails her colleague at the nearby school to let him know how well it went down.
Learning platforms are about bringing together a variety of information, including resources. It's a great way to continue improving the quality of resources available.
